Feeling wronged

Feeling wronged means believing you were treated unfairly, that someone broke a promise, a rule or your trust, and it hasn’t been put right.

What does feeling wronged feel like?

It replays. You go back over what was said, rehearse the answer you wish you’d given, and explain the whole thing in your head to an imaginary judge. Someone took credit for your work, a landlord kept a deposit, a sibling got the help you were refused. Under it there’s usually hurt as well as anger, and a strong wish for someone to say, plainly, that it wasn’t fair.

Is wronged a feeling?

Strictly, it’s a judgment: that something unfair was done to you. But it brings feelings with it, often hurt, anger and a sense of injustice all at once, and that mix is what people mean when they say they feel wronged.

Wronged or dismissed?

Wronged is about something done to you: a broken promise, a false accusation, an unfair decision. Dismissed is about what happens when you speak up, and your words are brushed aside. The two often arrive together. Someone treats you unfairly, and when you say so, you’re told you’re making a fuss.
